However, CBS clarified that Jim Nantz’s absence is part of a planned schedule, giving their top team time off after covering a major game in week 11.
Moreover, Nantz and his colleague will return in week 13 for a packed lineup, including the Bears vs. Lions Thanksgiving game and a likely Eagles vs. Ravens match.
Similarly, while fans have speculated about his health, there’s no indication that Jim Nantz is sick and seems to be in perfect health.
Jim Nantz’s father battled Alzheimer’s disease for years before his passing!
Jim Nantz’s father, Jim Nantz Jr., battled Alzheimer’s disease for many years before passing away in 2008.
Moreover, his health struggle began in the early 1990s when family members noticed changes in his behavior and memory.
On family trips, he often became disoriented, lost his way, and struggled with basic tasks.
Unfortunately, his symptoms worsened after suffering from a stroke in 1995, and his memory started to decline rapidly.
Likewise, he became dependent on his wife and children for care and simple tasks, and his behavior grew increasingly unpredictable.
His worsening situation made Jim and his family make a difficult decision to move him into a care facility.
Nantz’s mother, Doris, became so physically and emotionally exhausted from the caregiving that she fell ill and was hospitalized. Soon, in his final years, Jim’s father could no longer speak or recognize his loved ones.
Moreover, seeing his father’s struggle, Jim Nantz became an advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness and research after his father’s demise.
In 2008, he published a book, Always by My Side, as a tribute to his father, and later, in 2011, he partnered with Houston Methodist Hospital to launch the Nantz National Alzheimer Center.
