In January 2023, Hershel was added to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. And during the ceremony, his wife was right by his side, supporting him.
Also, in 2015, Sherrie surprised Hershel by driving to Phoenix to support him during a race. People praised her for supporting her husband even after many years of marriage.
Additionally, the pair has two children: a son named Hershel McGriff Jr. and a daughter named Debbie. Similarly, they have a great relationship with their children.

Hershel McGriff developed a passion for racing at a young age and started his career as a racer in 1945, just after World War II. Similarly, he won the first Carrera Panamericana in 1950, and as a result, he started becoming popular.
During the competition, he met with Bill France, Sr., the founder of NASCAR. And, Bill asked him to come to the United States to race in NASCAR races. Hershel took the opportunity and joined the racing company in 1954.

In the same year, he won four Grand National Series races, making him a serious contender. Additionally, he finished sixth in the standings, which was a better average finish than the winner, Lee Petty.
However, in 1955, he decided to take a break from racing and returned home to spend more time with his family. As a result, fans became worried that he would never return to the race tracks.
Hershel proved his fans wrong by returning to racing in 1967, nearly ten years later. After his return, he won a race at Riverside International Raceway.
Additionally, he continued to race into his 90s and became the oldest driver to start a NASCAR-sanctioned race in 2018.
