Bodie Dookie and his extravagant soccer mom won viewers’ hearts on the recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) season by including Carolina Panthers in their comedic delivery.
In SNL’s Weekend Updates, the host, Michael Che, mentioned that the regular NFL season is reaching its end. However, new stars have emerged, leaving impactful performances behind.
Michael shifted the narrative to Bodie Dookie and his mom, Melissa, who had navigated overnight success in the sports industry.
Moreover, Hiedi Gardner, who portrayed the mom, delved into the character and perfectly took up the persona of a soccer mom. The comedian talked about how her son’s popularity has improved her life.
According to the skit, Marcello Hernandez’s character, Bodie Dookie, recently signed a big contract with the Panthers for the 2024 season. The player thanked God for his miraculous blessing.
Meanwhile, Melissa flaunted her Balmain handbag, Oakley sunglasses, and Louboutin bottoms. She added, “Where is the changing room for Shaboozey? Cause I’m about to get laid ya’ll.“
Such comments referred to the singer’s recent performance at the NFL Thanksgiving Halftime Show, which was popular among viewers, especially the soccer moms.
The comedians shifted to a different perspective of the player’s life and claimed that becoming a sportsperson took a lot of sacrifice. Melissa stated, “My son committed to himself so hard that he had to sacrifice having a personality.“
Additionally, the lines received applause and laughs from the audience as Bodie claimed he always ‘trusted the process.’ The Dookies mentioned that such determination landed them a commercial offer for bread.
Panthers fans were just happy to be included and claimed that it was ‘good press!’
As the skit continued, Melissa made her son recite the words from her advertisement. However, Bodie showed dumbfoundedness, implied to be seen in young NFL players.
Soon, she nudged the Kelce family, among the most popular NFL families in the last few months. After Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift, they have been in constant public eye.
Melissa sarcastically added, “Money is falling out of the sky. Move aside, mama Kelce. There’s a new mama in town. Mama Dookie.“
Similarly, she expressed that her second husband, DeVante Dookie, was a close associate of the sports industry. DeVante allegedly played as a right tackle for the Falcons and passed away due to an irritable bowel.
Additionally, Melissa speculated about her dating life and claimed that the paparazzi had spotted her at the Einstein Brothers Bagels with Manny from Modern Family.
The host interrupted Melissa’s monologue, saying, “You know, not to be rude, but some people shouldn’t ever become rich.“
However, Bodie’s mom claimed that if her son’s career ends unexpectedly, she might need to have another baby. The joke hinted at NFL players having a large family, especially many siblings involved in sports.
Viewers praised the comedian’s performance on the skit and called it ‘one of the finest performances on TV in recent time.’ This isn’t the first time the NFL has appeared in SNL skits.
One of the most popular pieces includes the intros of Panthers vs Ravens. Fans claimed that the performance included inside jokes that only an avid follower might understand.
Maybe it’s time to start watching the NFL 2024 season a little more closely. After its recent success, SNL plans to incorporate more plotlines in the future.
