The football coach, Al Golden, tied the knot with Kelly Elizabeth Hanna, and they have been together for years. As a loving wife, Kelly has played a crucial role in the success that Al Golden has achieved.
Al Golden, the defensive coordinator of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, is currently married to Kelly Elizabeth Hanna of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
Similarly, Kelly seems to be a private individual and has not shared much about her life with the media.
I asked Notre Dame DC Al Golden about the Cincinnati Bengals DC job. What he said:

“It took us 30 years to get to this point here. I’m not worried about anything else. Just how to stop Penn State.”
Any contact?

Al and his wife have three children: a son, Alfred James Golden, and two daughters, Addison Elizabeth Golden and Grace Hanna Golden. Furthermore, Alfred is the eldest, and Grace is the youngest.
Additionally, it is likely that his wife’s support has been instrumental in helping him achieve success in his career.
In December 2024, the 55-year-old became a semifinalist for the Broyles Award, an award given to football’s top assistant coach. And, there is a good chance that Kelly was there supporting her husband when he received the award.
Al Golden got himself into controversy before the game against the Penn State Nittany Lions football!
On January 9, 2025, Al Golden’s squad won a match against the Penn State Nittany Lions football. Interestingly, the defensive coordinator played for the Nittany Lions during his college years under head coach Joe Paterno.
And, before the game, the media asked the 55-year-old about the biggest lesson he learned from Joe.

Answering the question, Al said, “The overarching lesson that has always stayed with me is that if you take care of the person, the person will become what you want as an athlete.”
He further added, “And then if you care about the player as a person, he’ll take care of the rest. He’ll make the journey to become a really, really good football player. So the athlete part of it is the byproduct of everything else.”
Unfortunately, this got Al into controversy, as in 2011, Penn State fired Joe Paterno for not taking action on reports of child sexual abuse involving assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
However, not all comments were bad, as some people praised the defensive coordinator for taking inspiration from Joe.
